God’s Secret Weapons: Hearing His Voice, One Whisper at a Time

✨ From Panama to Purpose: A Journey of Faith, Service, and Revelation

I just returned from my sixth mission trip to Panama—including my time with YWAM during DTS—and as always, it was a tremendous blessing. While my thoughts in this post may be a bit scattered, my prayer is that something here will speak to you—especially when it comes to hearing God’s voice.

🏗️ Building a Church in Juay, Panama

Our team, myself included, built a church in Juay in around a week. Compared to church buildings in the U.S., it might seem simple—but for the local community, it’s a beautiful blessing. The poverty in the region is extreme.

Many homes are made of tin walls, straw roofs, and dirt floors. By contrast, even a rundown motel in the U.S. would be considered luxury. It’s a sobering reminder to stay thankful and aware of our abundance, regardless of class or status.

🤫 Why I Rarely Share My Mission Trips

I usually keep quiet about these trips. Why? Because of what Jesus said:

📖 Matthew 6:1-5 (NIV)

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

Publicly displaying good deeds, especially on social media, can taint our intentions. If we’re posting pictures for likes or validation, we’ve already received our reward. This is one reason I left Facebook for seasons and stopped sharing most trip photos.

🤒 God Spoke While I Was Sick

During this trip, I got sick with a fever and had to rest in my tent during one of the services. But even then, God was speaking.

Something I’ve learned from reading Clare’s messages is that sickness can be an offering—a means of intercession. So I chose to offer it up for others in prayer instead of grumbling. That perspective gave purpose to my suffering.

📖 Philippians 1:29 (NIV)

29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,

God also gave me a word for a younger woman on the trip—something deeply personal I shared later. Not everything He showed me is meant to be revealed. But one moment I cherish is when I felt He said, “You are one of My secret weapons.”

👂 How Does God Speak?

Many people ask: What do you mean by “hearing God”? It’s rarely an audible voice. More often, it’s a whisper in your mind, in your thoughts—gentle, clear, and distinct from your own.

📖 1 Kings 19:12 (NIV)

12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

There are three types of voices you may hear:

  1. Your own thoughts
  2. God’s voice – gentle, affirming, life-giving
  3. The enemy’s voice – condemning, erratic, often deceptive

Learning to distinguish them takes time—like tuning your ear to music. I test everything I hear against Scripture and observe the fruit of those thoughts in my spirit.

📖 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NIV)

21 but test them all; hold on to what is good,

Also, consider the source of the thought. When you hear something in your mind, be sure it’s not just random mental noise or ambient chatter—make sure it aligns with God’s character and Word.

🌙 God Speaks Through Dreams (and Paperclips?)

God doesn’t only speak through thoughts—He speaks in dreams, impressions, objects, and patterns.

During a season of stress, I kept finding random paperclips and pennies. Strange, right? But when I searched online, I found others had experienced the same. For some:

  • Pennies = God reminding us He is near in suffering.
  • Paperclips = God holding things together—stay strong, trust Him.

It’s amazing how God uses even small signs to say, “I’m with you.”

🔢 God’s Voice in Numbers

God also speaks through numbers—but be cautious. The enemy has created counterfeits like angel numbers in New Age teachings to distort God’s truth.

For example, I often see 777, which to me means a reward has been stored in heaven:

📖 2 Esdras 7:77 (CEB)

77 You have a treasure of works stored up with the Most High, but it won’t be shown to you until the last times.

Lately, I’ve been seeing 222, which I connect with:

  • Genesis 2:22 – God bringing a woman to Adam
  • 2 Timothy 2:22 – Flee sin and pursue righteousness

These numbers might be nudges from God about relationships, purpose, or heart alignment. Always bring it to prayer and Scripture for confirmation.

🎂 Birthdays, Vitamins & Divine Health Tips

I once kept seeing 311 and wondered why. One day I felt prompted to check which day of the year that is—it was my birthday. God was reminding me: I’m glad you’re alive and were born. I love you.

Another time, I kept hearing “CoQ10” in my spirit. It’s a supplement, and once I started taking it, I had more energy and clarity. It was like a divine health tip—God caring for me even in the smallest ways.

📖 Luke 12:7 (NIV)

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

🎯 Why Hearing God Matters

Hearing God’s voice is essential for:

  • Walking in your calling
  • Strengthening your relationship with Him
  • Encouraging others with Spirit-led words
  • Becoming a spiritual weapon against the enemy

God may give you insight about someone that only He would know. When you share it, it can break chains, bring healing, and prove God’s love is real. Hearing Him transforms you—so you can transform others.

✅ Conclusion

Learning to hear God’s voice is a journey—one that requires patience, discernment, and a heart willing to listen. Whether through quiet thoughts, Scripture, signs, or even numbers, God is always speaking. The more you seek Him, the clearer His voice becomes. Stay sensitive, stay humble, and let His guidance shape your steps. In doing so, you won’t just hear God—you’ll walk boldly in the purpose He’s prepared for you.

🌿 Final Thoughts

You don’t have to be a pastor or missionary to hear God. You just need to be still, be open, and tune your heart. When you do, the world becomes more vibrant, more purposeful—and you become more powerful.

Let God make you one of His secret weapons.

🎵 Here’s the ending music. 🎵
