The Case of Orgone

Blue Quartz Crystal

I can’t quite remember how I learned about this but nonetheless I found it very interesting. So, we’re going to talk about Orgone energy or at least the theory of it. The history all begins with a man by the name of Wilhelm Reich.

It was shortly after he arrived in New York in 1939 that Reich first said he had discovered a biological or cosmic energy, an extension of Freud’s idea of the libido. He called it “orgone energy” or “orgone radiation”, and the study of it “orgonomy”. Reich said he had seen orgone when he injected his mice with bions and in the sky at night through an “organoscope”, a special telescope.

He argued that it is in the soil and air (indeed, is omnipresent), is blue or blue-grey, and that humanity had divided its knowledge of it in two: Aether for the physical aspect and God for the spiritual. The color of the sky, the northern lights, St Elmo’s Fire, and the blue of sexually excited frogs are manifestations of orgone, he wrote. He also argued that protozoa, red corpuscles, cancer cells and the chlorophyll of plants are charged with it.

HEALING PROPERTIES

Reich then took these discoveries further and tried to heal people’s illnesses.

In 1940, he began to build insulated Faraday cages, “orgone accumulators”, that he said would concentrate the orgone. The earliest boxes were for laboratory animals. The first human-sized, five-foot-tall box was built in December 1940, and set up in the basement of his house. Turner writes that it was made of plywood lined with rock wool and sheet iron, and had a chair inside and a small window. The boxes had multiple layers of these materials, which caused the orgone concentration inside the box to be three to five times stronger than in the air, Reich said. Patients were expected to sit inside them naked.

The accumulators were tested on plant growth and mice with cancer. Reich wrote to his supporters in July 1941 that orgone is “definitely able to destroy cancerous growth. This is proved by the fact that tumors in all parts of the body are disappearing or diminishing. No other remedy in the world can claim such a thing.” Although not licensed to practice medicine in the United States, he began testing the boxes on human beings diagnosed with cancer and schizophrenia.

FBI AND FDA OPPOSITION

I think one of the most fascinating takes from Reich’s work is that both the FBI and FDA were getting in the way of his work and had his books destroyed! If Reich’s work was bogus why are these high-profile organizations going out of their way to destroy it?

On 12 December 1941, five days after the attack on Pearl Harbor and a day after Germany declared it was at war with the United States, Reich was arrested in his home at 2 a.m. by the FBI and taken to Ellis Island, where he was held for over three weeks. He identified himself at the time as the Associate Professor of Medical Psychology, Director of the Orgone Institute.

On 5 June 1956, two FDA officials arrived at Orgonon to supervise the destruction of the accumulators. Most of them had been sold by that time and another 50 were with Silvert in New York, leaving only three accumulators at Orgonon. The FDA agents were not allowed to destroy them, only to supervise the destruction, so Reich’s friends and his son, Peter, chopped them up with axes as the agents watched. Once they were destroyed, Reich placed an American flag on top of them.

On 26 June, the agents returned to supervise the destruction of the promotional material, including 251 copies of Reich’s books. The American Civil Liberties Union issued a press release criticizing the book burning, although coverage of the release was poor, and Reich ended up asking them not to help because he was annoyed that they had failed to criticize the destruction of the accumulators. In England, A. S. Neill and the poet Herbert Read signed a letter of protest, but it was never published. On July 23 the remaining accumulators in New York were destroyed by S. A. Collins and Sons, who had built them.

I think it’s very possible that Reich was given a glimpse of something to help humanity and was met with major opposition.

AN OBESRVATION

When I first read about all of this it really piqued my interest so for some fun, I bought an Orgonite pyramid from Amazon. I figured even if all of this was somehow bogus, I would have a cool artifact that is appealing to my eye since I like unique artistic things. I didn’t notice anything major from the purchase.

I also bought an orgonite necklace from Etsy. I had several people compliment my necklace which I found to be an interesting positive to add. The necklace ended up fading and breaking due to water damage by showering and so I no longer have it.

When I was on my DTS with YWAM, I was roommates with someone suffering from depression and nightmares. I brought my orgonite pyramid with to put under my bed but instead decided to put it on my roommate’s nightstand, then explaining the concept. He kept it on his nightstand for weeks.

After that time, I thought I would take it back since it probably wasn’t doing anything. That night we all woke up to him screaming in his sleep from nightmares. I couldn’t believe it, do these things actually do something?

The one night I take it away, my roommates had really bad nightmares. It’s an interesting observation, but perhaps there are other tests to confirm these things do something.

FREEZE TESTS

I think one of the most telling pieces of evidence are the freeze tests. The freeze tests show that there is a sort of energetic effect that is taking place that we can’t see with our eyes but nonetheless is happening.

The micro air bubbles in the water during the process of the water freezing slowly get moved into the center vortex.

It’s speculated that an invisible energetic force emitted by the orgonite in a vortex fashion traps the micro air bubbles this way. We can see that without Orgonite the vortex effect does not occur.

ENERGY SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE 2019

Now, you may be thinking, “Dexter that’s cool and all, but I am going need more than frozen water to convince me”. Well as luck would have it, I actually found a speaker presenting this concept at the Energy Science and Technology Conference in 2019.

I have linked a preview, but you can order the content on physical media, here. I will probably be ordering it myself since I find all this interesting.

There’s nothing more fun than giving a tough science critic something like Orgonite links to actual science conferences.

EXPERIMENTAL LIFE ENERGY METER

I also found some cool videos and links that may be of interest. The video in this section is of a person testing with an experimental life energy meter, which can be found here.

It’s a very interesting video and if you ever wanted to make these or compare with purchases online, I think it may be worth a look at.

The quality of the pieces that S&A’s Orgonite Creations creates I feel is the best I have seen online.

It would be my goal to create similar quality pieces however without any New Age symbols and mentality.

HOW DOES ORGONITE WORK?

Whether you think this stuff is just New Age or ridiculous, the point is that there seems to be more at work here than we may understand. The Missing 411 mystery also can slightly tie into this. The disappearances in Yosemite National Park are the highest of any other National Park and one of David Paulides’ profile points are that people disappear near boulder and granite fields.

So, there could be something about certain natural materials and things like crystals that attract certain phenomena.

In this video, Reinhard Stanjek, who has many years of experience with Orgonite explains how he thinks it’s working, and the video gives some good illustrations.

The quartz crystal in the middle is wrapped with copper during the pouring of the resin, when the resin hardens it compresses the copper wire against the quartz crystal. The idea is that it creates a sort of frequency or charge that creates an energy that promotes life.

While I would consider Reinhard to have a New Age leaning mentality, I am posting one of his videos for context of what the community believes is going on whether accurate or not.

The illustrations I think are good to share to get a better idea.

In 1951, Reich said he had discovered another energy that he called deadly orgone radiation (DOR), accumulations of which played a role in desertification. He designed a “cloudbuster”, rows of 15-foot aluminium pipes mounted on a mobile platform, connected to cables that were inserted into water. He believed that it could unblock orgone energy in the atmosphere and cause rain. Turner described it as an “orgone box turned inside out”.

He conducted dozens of experiments with the cloudbuster, calling his research “Cosmic Orgone Engineering”. During a drought in 1953, two farmers in Maine offered to pay him if he could make it rain to save their blueberry crop. Reich used the cloudbuster on the morning of July 6, and according to Bangor’s Daily News—based on an account from an anonymous eyewitness who was probably Peter Reich—rain began to fall that evening. The crop survived, the farmers declared themselves satisfied, and Reich received his fee.

Cloudbusting is a strange concept, and I am not sure why people are out there trying to destroy clouds like the guy in this video, but I am sharing this to add a final little mysterious touch to all of this.

CONCLUSION

Well, there you have it, a new mystery to reflect on. This life can be boring at times, and so a good mystery should never be forgotten! There are many people out there that mock these kinds of things, but as with many things, things are not always as they appear.

Since the writing of this I have created my own Orgonite pyramids and have placed them around my apartment and under my Berkey water filter system. I can say I feel really good and get a very deep sleep.

I feel I have more life in me and that I am healthier. Whether it’s Orgonite, God, or my own mind I don’t know, but that’s the fun part of the mystery. Here’s some music to relax to while you ponder all of this. :)
